As we look forward to our Water, Land, Air performances with Casi Wyn this week, our Marketing Consultant Heulwen Davies spoke to Casi to learn a bit more about the project…

Casi, we’re thrilled to be collaborating with you on our Water, Land, Air performance and sharing it with audiences in Cardiff and Bangor very soon. Tell us a bit about the background of this project?

Well first of all, yes, I’m super excited too! Sinfonia Cymru kindly invited me to collaborate on a new and unique musical performance where I’ll be working with and performing with seven of their talented musicians. We wanted to devise a magical and powerful re introduction into live music concerts, we hope this piece will be an amazing experience for the audience.

What was the inspiration for the piece?

In a nutshell, Wales. In Water, Land, Air we explore and celebrate Wales. Our literature and culture is so deep routed in the landscape and natural world, so in each of the three acts we’re focusing on different elements of our beautiful landscape and culture.

What can our audiences expect?

The unexpected! It’s like a soundtrack to a Disney film that doesn’t exist yet, the stories are all Welsh and Celtic. In the ‘Water’ act you’ll experience deep music, an exploration of rivers and love and more. In ‘Air’ you’ll experience lighter tones and melodies which will lift you to some unexpected places. Some of the musicians will also use their voices, it will be a beautiful journey for us all.

How do you feel about working with our musicians?

It’s such a cool and unique experience, there’s no conductor and we all get to collaborate in a short and quite intense rehearsal period at Ty Cerdd. We can all put our own stamp on the music I’ve written, that’s really exciting for me as a musician. Experiencing it all coming together so organically a few days before the first performance will be really special.

There are only two opportunities to experience it, so why should people book those tickets?

Because I promise to offer you some magic and lots of kindness in the form of music and melody. Music is sacred to me, our audiences will experience something truly special which will take your mind to wherever it needs to be at the time. It will be an intimate experience where you can smile, relax, cry, feel excited…whatever you need within that space at the time. It’s going to be memorable & it will hopefully stay with you for a long time.

Water, Land Air will be performed at RWCMD Cardiff on Thursday, June 30th & Pontio, Bangor on Friday July 1st. Both performances are at 19:30 and suitable for all ages.
