Mina Middleton – flute

Esther Beyer harp

Dive into a world where Welsh valleys meet Japanese forests in this flute and harp concert, curated by Sinfonia Cymru flautist Mina Middleton.

Inspired by the 2025 Wales and Japan Year of Culture, Kizuna/Cyswllt (meaning ‘bond’ in Japanese/Welsh) celebrates the connection between the two countries.

You’ll enjoy a musical journey filled with folk melodies from Japan and Wales, and modern compositions they have inspired. Each piece is influenced by the natural and historic landscapes and timeless traditions of both nations.

The concert is performed on Western concert flute and harp but draws inspiration from the sounds and traditions of the shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute) and koto (Japanese string instrument), instruments that hold a similarly important place in Japanese musical culture as the harp and flute do in Wales.

For this concert, Mina is joined by award-winning harpist and former Benedetti Foundation ambassador, Esther Beyer.
