Lucienne Renaudin Vary & Sinfonia Cymru bring the vibrant streets of France to Wales this November

Sinfonia Cymru Press Release: 27.09.22
Published Tuesday 27 September 2022

Described by Classical KDFC radio as a “trumpet sensation”, France’s Lucienne Renaudin Vary is quite a star! A Warner recording artist, she’s won prestigious awards including winning the ‘Révélation’ category of the ‘Victories de la Musique Classique’. She’s a regular on the big screen and she’s travelled the world, wowing audiences and fellow musicians with her incredible talent. As if that wasn’t enough, she’s just 23 years old! Sinfonia Cymru can’t wait to collaborate and perform with Lucienne here in Wales this autumn:

“This project has been in the pipeline for three years now and we are so pleased to finally be able to bring Lucienne to Wales. It’s been very exciting to discuss ideas with an artist who offers such a broad range of repertoire and styles; there’s no conductor, so this will be a very close collaboration between Lucienne and our musicians. All these young musicians will bring a special energy, and their own magic, to each of the four performances. This is a great opportunity for Welsh audiences to see a real star of the future – we can’t wait for the tour!”

– Tammy Daly, General Manager, Sinfonia Cymru.

This will be Lucienne’s first time in Wales and she’s incredibly excited about her visit and her collaboration with Sinfonia Cymru:

“I can’t wait to perform with the musicians at Sinfonia Cymru. It’s amazing to be able to work with other young people who are involved in classical music. Directing them will be very new for me too! I’m also excited to visit Wales. I have images of what it’s like, but to see those amazing landscapes in south and north Wales will be unforgettable. I look forward to trying the Welsh food too!”

During the tour, Lucienne and Sinfonia Cymru hope to bring the vitality of France to Wales, with an exciting and eclectic mix of music, inspired by the streets of France and also some from New York too, as Lucienne explains:

“The musicians and I love to listen to, and play, multi-genre pieces in our concerts – it’s fun and it’s refreshing for the audience too. We’ll have classical pieces like the Hummel Trumpet Concerto and also some playful jazzy pieces from the streets of France and New York. The arrangements have been written especially for me by an amazing American arranger, Bill Elliott – they are really shaped for the trumpet and orchestra. It’s going to be fun.”

Alis Huws from mid Wales is the Official Royal Harpist and has recently joined us at Sinfonia Cymru. She was part of our successful ‘Water, Land, Air’ collaboration and tour with poet and musician Casi Wyn. Alis will be chatting to Lucienne live on our Sinfonia Cymru Instagram Page on Wednesday the 5th of October at 8pm, before joining the ‘trumpet sensation’ on tour this November:

“I’m really excited to be working with Lucienne on this project – it’s so refreshing to have a mix of repertoire with something for everyone. Lucienne has a great energy and we’re all looking forward to giving her a memorable first Welsh experience!”

You can catch the ‘Trumpet Sensation’ Tour at the Riverfront in Newport on Thursday the 17th of November, RWCMD Cardiff on Friday the 18th, Pontyberem CP School on Saturday the 19th and at William Aston Hall, Wrexham on Sunday the 20th of November.
