Sinfonia Cymru & Timothy Ridout

Thursday 18 November 2021 - Saturday 20 November 2021

This string ensemble programme will be our first orchestral concert after an absence of almost two years.  Join us for what promises to be an exhilarating evening with guest soloist / director, Timothy Ridout, the British violist and current BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist.

Timothy is an exceptional talent and, not surprisingly, is in high demand as both a soloist and chamber musician. For this tour, he has devised a varied programme that truly showcases the viola, featuring great music by Telemann, Mozart and Schubert and a concerto by JS Bach.  This player-led programme is sure to be an exhilarating evening – perfect for a return to concert-going.

You may have seen Timothy in his last performances with Sinfonia Cymru, in 2018, when he played Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante alongside Benjamin Baker for the orchestra’s debut BBC Radio 3 broadcast. Audiences were in awe of the wonderful musicality and virtuosity of the duo and orchestra and this concert promises to repeat that experience.

Estimated concert length with interval: 1 hour 40

  1. Heinrich Biber Battalia
  2. Georg Philip Telemann Viola Concerto in G major
  3. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Adagio and Fugue, K.546
  4. Johann Sebastian Bach Viola Concerto
