Summer Weekender #5

Published Thursday 12 August 2021

Sinfonia Cymru’s Summer Weekender Festival features 14 new videos plus 4 of our top choices from the existing catalogue. There are three strands to the festival: Players’ Picks, where our wind players have chosen their favourite pieces; Curate, where we give musicians the opportunity to create and develop their own programme around a theme of their choice; and Re-visited, featuring four of our best existing pieces.

Join us on Friday 20 to Sunday 22 August for a feast of music ranging from Hamilton Harty to Joseph Haydn, Clara Schumann to John Stanley, Arvo Pärt to Francis Poulenc, and Rene Griffiths to the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Session 5 – Sunday 22 August, 12pm

We kick-off this final day of Summer Weekender with Liten Statymusic (Statue Music) by Swedish composer Stefan Klaverdal, played by Camilla Marchant (flute), Will Knight (Clarinet) and Emily Newman (Bassoon). We also hear Elgar played by Bassoonist Matthew Kitteringham, and the first of Clara Schumann’s Three Romances played by Katherine Bryer, both accompanied by Hamish Brown (piano). Our Re-visit choice for this session is from an earlier Curate by Helen Wilson, entitled Profit, People, Planet. The piece is Was Blind But Now I See and features Helen on flute and Abel Selaocoe on cello and vocals.

Programme

  1. Stefan Klaverdal Liten Statymusik
  2. Edward Elgar Romance for Bassoon
  3. Clara Schumann Three Romances - No.1
  4. Helen Wilson Was Blind But Now I See
