Summer Weekender #4

Published Thursday 12 August 2021

Sinfonia Cymru’s Summer Weekender Festival features 14 new videos plus 4 of our top choices from the existing catalogue. There are three strands to the festival: Players’ Picks, where our wind players have chosen their favourite pieces; Curate, where we give musicians the opportunity to create and develop their own programme around a theme of their choice; and Re-visited, featuring four of our best existing pieces.

Join us on Friday 20 to Sunday 22 August for a feast of music ranging from Hamilton Harty to Joseph Haydn, Clara Schumann to John Stanley, Arvo Pärt to Francis Poulenc, and Rene Griffiths to the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Session 4 – Saturday 21 August, 6.30pm

This session is given over to the second of our Curate programmes. This one, Endangered, is curated by viola player Ali Vennart and features the ‘low string quartet’. This less familiar quartet set-up banishes the violins and gives centre stage to 2 violas, cello and double bass. In the programme, you’ll hear music from Telemann, Maria Kouznetsova and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

We are grateful to The Radcliffe Trust, Garrick Charitable Trust and Idlewild Trust for their support of the Curate series.

Programme

  1. Georg Philipp Telemann, arr. Ali Vennart String Quintet in E Minor
  2. Maria Kouznetsova Curae
  3. Red Hot Chili Peppers, arr. Ali Vennart Get On Top
