Summer Weekender #1

Published Friday 6 August 2021

Sinfonia Cymru’s Summer Weekender Festival features 14 new videos plus 4 of our top choices from the existing catalogue. There are three strands to the festival: Players’ Picks, where our wind players have chosen their favourite pieces; Curate, where we give musicians the opportunity to create and develop their own programme around a theme of their choice; and Re-visited, featuring four of our best existing pieces.

Join us on Friday 20 to Sunday 22 August for a feast of music ranging from Hamilton Harty to Joseph Haydn, Clara Schumann to John Stanley, Arvo Pärt to Francis Poulenc, and Rene Griffiths to the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Session 1 – Friday 20 August at 6.30pm

We open our Summer Weekender with the first of our Curate programmes, Spiritual Borderlands, curated by Caroline Pether. The music has been specially chosen to give the listener time to think, to contemplate or ponder, or to meditate if you wish. There is a set of sample meditations on the website which you can use –  alternatively you can just go on your own journey. The music you will hear is by John Tavener, Arvo Pärt, Haydn, and a new arrangement of Abide With Me, made by Simon Parkin for this performance.

We are grateful to The Radcliffe Trust, Garrick Charitable Trust and Idlewild Trust for their support of the Curate series.
