Players’ Picks – Romance for Bassoon, Elgar
Published Monday 23 August 2021We wanted to create more music videos for you and also give our wind players a chance to shine. So, we asked them to choose their favourite pieces from the wind repertoire. The result is a selection of short solos, duos and trios covering a range of composers and musical styles.
Matt Kitteringham has chosen Edward Elgar’s Romance for Bassoon, originally written for bassoon and orchestra and also transcribed by Elgar for the cello. The original bassoon version, from 1909/10, was composed for Edwin F James, principal bassoonist of the London Symphony Orchestra at the time.
