Simmy Singh joins Sinfonia Cymru Board

Sinfonia Cymru is pleased to announce the appointment of Simran (Simmy) Singh to its Board. Simmy has been a regular member of the orchestra for the last few years.
Simmy enjoys a varied career as a classical and crossover violinist; she is Leader of the Kaleidoscope Orchestra and a co-founder of Manchester Collective. Brought up in Llandybie, Simmy was taught violin by her mother before going on to study at Chetham’s School of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music. During her time at Sinfonia Cymru, as well as orchestral concerts, she regularly took part in cross-genre projects, including Birdsong / Can Yr Adar with soul funk singer Kizzy Crawford and jazz pianist Gwilym Simcock, and Close to Folk which featured Sinfonia Cymru musicians alongside world music band Kabantu.
Simmy is currently studying for a Masters in composition at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. In summer 2021, Simmy returns as a guest artist to lead a project, with her sister Rakhi, in a programme which explores their Welsh and Indian heritage and other influences on their musical journeys.
Chief Executive Peter Bellingham says: “Simmy will be such a good addition to our Board of Trustees. She will bring a unique perspective as a recent member of the orchestra, as well as her experience and insights from working with so many other music ensembles.”
